Life of the Church
A Focus on Community
In early 1973, a group of believers felt called to begin a new church development in Shelby Township at William E. Malow Junior High School. With the support of the Presbytery of Detroit in June 1973 we were chartered as a congregation. Through prayer, faith, and dedication, we built and moved into our present facility in 1976, less than a half mile from the Junior High School.
Our name is intentional. The word Community is placed after St. Thomas and before Church, so that we can communicate we are a community-based faithful organization, seeking to serve the Shelby Township area and beyond. Community is important to us - it is what keeps us centered on the Mission of Jesus Christ through God's calling to us all.
More Light
Why We are Radically Inclusive
St. Thomas embodies to the best of its ability the deep, heart-felt meaning of being a More Light Presbyterian Church. We support the full inclusion of our LGBTQIA+ siblings, understanding that  we are responsible for building up the body of Christ, to express and extend Jesus' hospitality, create and sustaing safe worship space, and continue to practice the theology of the open table. We are called together as many grains that form one bread. We share one cup. We, together, are the body of Christ.

Our Core Values

Above our affirmation of the radical inclusivity of Jesus Christ, our core values reflect three basic principles listed below.

Love God
...Love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might. (Deut. 6:4)

Share Christ
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19)... and, if necessary, use words.

Live in the Spirit
...The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23)
