Call to Worship
Diana Fusciardi, Liturgist
Leader: God of grace, in the beginning, you gathered us into community,
ALL: For as you said, “It is not good that the human being should be alone!”
Leader: God of freedom, in the exodus, you gathered us into community,
ALL: For you heard the cry of our groaning, our desire for liberation, for new life!
Leader: God of love, at Pentecost, you gathered us into community,
ALL: For you gave birth to the church!
Leader: And this morning, we give thanks that you gather us into community,
ALL: A community of abundant life: of grace, of freedom, and of love.
Leader: Beloved, come, let us worship God!
ALL: Let us worship God!
Opening Song of Praise
“Number 40”
Invocation
Leader: Gracious God, you have invited and welcomed us to this place of worship. You draw us away from the idols we create to take your place. When we come together, we sense that there is nothing in life that can substitute for a vital relationship with you. Yet we are only dimly aware of who you are. All the mysteries of the universe are in your hands, yet you have made yourself known among the people of this earth. We catch glimpses of your work among us and are amazed. We want to meet you again today, as for the first time. Touch us. Remake us. Help us to stand firm in the faith. Amen.
